First Running of the System

Finally were were ready for the first running of the system!

So we filled it all with water, turned on the pumps and watched the water flow. It worked as specified and expected (ok Martin had to tweak a couple of minor things). But it was fantastic!

The water pumps were turned on.

Water ran into the fish tanks doing the final fillling up.

Water then proceeded on into the swirl filter.

Then through the nitrification filter.

And then into the Sump.

From the sump it is pumped down to the Grow Channel. Where the water flow rate is controlled by an inlet tap.

We checked to make sure the water flowed easily from the first Grow Channel into the second one.

Then out of the second Grow Channel and back to the sump. We dropped some rafts into one of the Grow Channels. When finished we will put foam spacers in to keep the rafts in place and away from the inlets/outlets.

And with that all working well Isabell tested out the floating raft by adding a few seedlings.

Why did Red Heeler choose to put in an Aquaponic System?

Initially the motivation was the drought. Water allocations in the area were less than 20% making ground cropping almost impossible.
