Commercial Aquaponics Systems

example design

We believe that Aquaponics can be an ideal commercial business if managed correctly with the right expectations. We have done, and continue to do, significant research in the subject of commercial aquaponic systems and with the help of the DPI&F and several industry professionals we believe that we are suitably positioned to assist people with the design, installation and running of commercial aquaponics systems.

We continue to do ongoing research and we are improving our commercial modeling all the time. We have built our own research area (see our Aquaponic Research section). We are using this area to test theories and find solutions to problems for our commercial clients.

Our goal is not to build our own large aquaponic system. Rather our goal is to assist others with their commercial aquaponic systems. To provide them with reliable information and to keep assisting them for as long as they remain doing aquaponics.

Commercial aquaponic systems are significantly different from either aquaculture or hydroponic systems. We do not believe that they compete but rather fill a different niche.

In late 2007 we started building our first commercial aquaponics system for a client in Victoria. We will be finished the project (to stage 1) by early 2008. The client is called Red Heeler Aquaponic Sales and if you want to know more about that project please view the Red Heeler section of this web site. You can also view the Red Heeler Aquaponic Sales website for the latest updates.

We are continuing to design and have built our own components that we believe will work best in aquaponic systems. While there are many products on the market for both aquaculture and hydroponics we believe that purpose built products are best.

As our research continues we will continue to develop our designs and produce new products for our commercial clients. We also provide our clients with ongoing updates on changes in the industry as well as assistance with solving problems as they come to light.

No one has all the answers however we are continuing to gain more knowledge daily in both hi-tech and low-tech systems. We are studying both areas in an effort to assist more people globally.

Each system design is different. While they are all based on the same principles they vary greatly depending on the type of plants and aquatic animals to be grown. We offer a full consultancy service that is available to people who are thinking of taking on a commercial aquaponic system. This service will give you invaluable insight and allow you to better evaluate if an aquaponic system will meet your needs.

Can I use aquaponics to supplement my income?

We believe that aquaponics is an ideal system for farmers to supplement their income. A small commercial aquaponics system could produce an additional $50,000 to $100,000 per year income on well less than an acre of land, with no viable soil, little water use and with a relatively low amount of effort.
