About the Aquaponics Shop
We are the first dedicated Aquaponics Shop in Australia and perhaps the world! Our head office is located in Northgate, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. We have however helped people from all over Australia and other countries.
We became aware of Aquaponics after seeing a segment on the ABC Gardening Show where Joel Malcolm in Western Australia presented his 'flood and drain' aquaponic system. His 'flood and drain' system, which is based on the Tom and Paula Speraneo's 'ebb and flow' design (S&S Aqua Farm in Missouri, United States), was very impressive - so we thought we would give aquaponics a go for ourselves.
We contacted Murray Hallam in Brisbane, after a search of the internet, and found that he was producing tanks and beds from fiberglass. He had his own system which was working well so we decided to purchase his products and setup our own system. So Rush Creek was born.

Initially we were looking for the 'catch' but frankly after several months we had not found it. In fact it seemed that Aquaponics works exactly as is described by many other people. We were so impressed that we decided to setup the Aquaponics Shop so we could assist other people with there aquaponics needs; both physical and informational.
We now have a full range of our own kits for the home user that we are continuing to develop. We use a variety of different products for our systems as our own knowledge base improves and we discover better ways of building the kits. We have tried to make a range that will fit every size, need and price range. Please see our Online Shop for more information on our kits and other products we sell and support.
With the success of our home systems we developed a real interest in the commercial possibilities of Aquaponics. We looked about and found that the majority of current scientific information on Aquaponics was being done by Dr James Rakocy, University of the Virgin Islands; Dr Nick Savidov, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development; and Dr Wilson Lennard, Victoria Australia.
We decided that we would like to assist with improving the scientific research of Aquaponics. We approached the Department for Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) in Queensland and we are still extremely pleased with their receptiveness and willingness to work with us on Aquaponics.
We have setup our own small research facility, see the section on Aquaponic Research, at our Northgate premise. It is going very well. We hope that over time we can contribute positively to the global knowledge base about this exciting process.

After a lot of research, assistance from the DPI&F, Mr Geoff Wilson and Dr Lennard, and experimentation of on our own systems we decided to work more positively on commercial aquaponic systems and their design. We are pleased to have assisted people with their commercial needs and will be continuing to develop this very exciting area of aquaponics into the future. For more information on commercial aquaponics systems please see our Commercial Systems section.

Finally, since we began we have been asked many different questions on aquaponic systems. We decided that it was easier to share the answers to these question with everyone so we added a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section to this web site. We hope that you find this section enlightening and helpful. If you have any questions you would like us to answer then we will be happy to help you.
Aquaponics is great fun. We are always more than happy to assist anyone we can with information and products to allow them to take advantage of this wonderful system.
